The Ninth China-Korea-Japan Symposium on Structural Steel Construction is held on Oct.30th to 31st in Beijing Friendship Hotel. More than 50 experts and scholars participate in the symposium .

The C-K-J symposium in 2007 is endowed with two topics---New Technology (Composite Structure; Steel House; Stadium; Steel Bridge; Maintenance; New Material, etc) and Design Code on structural steel construction. Fifteen thesis are collected and compiled into proceedings. The lectures are given by keynote speakers and technical paper presenters.

Vice president of China Steel Construction Society , vice president of Tongji University, Professor Li Guoqiang presents the opening address in which he wishes the academic conference a great success and all delegates would enjoy a wonderful time in Beijing. Professor Li also made a keynote lecture on Practical Approach for Design of Semi-rigid Composite Frames . Lectures from the Chinese delegates fully reflect the soaring researching level of China steel construction, the strength and potential of which arouses attention and enthusiastic discussion.

The Korean experts' lectures are also quite inspirational for the Asia colleagues. The keynote lecture New Trends in the Structural Section Market In Korea given by Doctor. Won-jib Choi is a typical one of them. Through analyzing the dramatic increasing of structural section market in Korea and the changes it has brought about, the paper takes Hyundai Steel Company as example to manifest that the conventional role of steelmakers should be changed into a total solution provider, covers new products planning, development and distribution of related application technology. This kind of evolution will help promote more steel structural system and boost up competitivity. His study inspires the Asian colleagues who are in the similar situation and also provides a much practical route for the development of steel construction in the future.

In the keynote paper of Prof. Nagai from Nagaoka University of Technology who is the leader of Japanese delegation, he amply introduces design code and new technology for steel and steel-concrete hybrid bridges in Japan . He also points out that adoption of new technology and new material is key to promoting structural steel and decreasing the high energy consumption. Through illustration of the thermal environment and energy consumption efficiency of light-gauge steel-framed residential houses with external thermal insulation structures, the lecture of Mr. Yoshimitsu Murarashi from Nippon Steel Corporation also indicates the increasing application of structural steel in residential construction and the unceasingly advancing technology. These lectures are significant for understanding the trends of progress in Japanese steel construction field.

The symposium has been carrying out in a fairly active and precise atmosphere, on which there are six Chinese delegates, four experts from Japan and five Korean representatives share their splendid researching harvest. The achievements these speakers have made greatly widen our ideas and vision on design, constructing and application of steel construction.

In the discussion section of the ˇ°Asian Codeˇ± on design, delegates from three societies air their different views and reach a consensus on the purpose of ˇ°Communicating and making up deficienciesˇ± through translating their design regulations into English. This action will sweep away the obstacle of language and promote the joint advancement of the steel construction cause in the three countries.

As the organizer, CSCS specially arranged the delegates to visit the construction site of new tower of CCTV and National Olympic Stadium nicknamed ˇ°Bird's nestˇ± which both attract worldwide attention. The ninth symposium come to an impressive close in the exciting visit of the two magnificent architecture.

China-Korea-Japan Symposium on structural steel construction has been successfully held for 9 years which has become a platform for the colleagues in China , Korea and Japan to exchange technology, trade information and culture. In the future, the symposium will be always making contribution to the development of steel construction of Asia and around the world.
